Inspiring Future Aviators
During Girls in Aviation Day at Heritage Aviation’s hangar in Burlington, Vermont, Airshare pilots Alison Phillips and Lexi Baughman had the opportunity to help inspire the next generation of aviators.
What started as a routine overnight quickly turned into a special opportunity to connect with students interested in aviation. After organizers noticed Alison and Lexi were an all-female flight crew, they were spontaneously invited to spend time with attendees, giving tours of the Phenom and allowing the girls a supervised opportunity to sit in the cockpit.
“Lexi and I had a blast talking to the girls and answering their questions,” Alison shared.
The students learned firsthand about careers in aviation and explored the many paths available throughout the industry. By spending time with aviation professionals and seeing an aircraft up close, attendees gained a better understanding of the opportunities available in fields ranging from flight operations to other aviation career paths.
Events like Girls in Aviation Day help introduce young people to the aviation industry while highlighting the variety of rewarding careers available. For many students, the opportunity to meet working pilots and ask questions about their experiences can make an aviation career feel more attainable.
The event’s organizers later shared their appreciation, noting that Alison and Lexi helped make aviation feel approachable and real by taking the time to connect with the students, answer questions, and share their experiences.
We’re proud of Alison and Lexi for representing Airshare at Girls in Aviation Day and helping encourage young women to dream big and pursue their passion for aviation.
